Emma Aubrey Baugh is nine months old today, which makes it a good time to reflect on where we’ve been thus far.
If you’ve been following this blog, you’ll have seen the progress and sheer growth of Emma. Recently, she’s learned to crawl. A tooth has sprouted. She’s begun pulling up on things, including her dresser and her crib. She laughs at Greta, the schnauzer. She pets Berkeley, the lab. She absolutely LOVES cell phones, televisions, computer screens and other objects that produce light and sound.
She knows her name. She loves apples, pears and peaches but hates avocados. She likes to “network,” otherwise known as demanding to be handed from person to person whilst amongst a group of known adults. She enjoys her mother’s music and her father’s music. She doesn’t sleep through the night — anymore. She holds her own bottles but she can’t yet change her own diaper.
She’ll drink her formula at room temperature, and she won’t go to sleep without a pacifier and Horsie. She hates to have her legs under a blanket and sweats when she sleeps in her parents’ arms. Her biggest smiles are when she first sees you in the morning, and when you get home from work. She’s got to be the most popular kid at school. She likes to cat nap and make new noises.
She likes her baths but hates water poured over her head (even if it’s only from wringing out a cloth). She’s immensely interested in pendants and earrings. She loves her Mexican rattle. She likes to point at things and is starting to wave.
She seems to love the Cowboys — even though neither of her parents watch football. She no longer allows herself to be placed in her exersaucer but she loves to go on walks in her stroller. She likes to feel the texture of fabric, skin, floors and anything else she can get her finger on.
All of that in only nine months. What a wild, wonderful ride…
