Emma feeds herself… March 24, 2009
Emma is growing up so quickly. She’s not a big fan of pureed food anymore and much rather eat meals that she can feed herself. She eats smoked turkey breast, cheese, green peas, diced apples, carrots, diced sweet potatoes. And she LOVES black beans!

Emma learned to clap her hands… December 2, 2008
Ashley has recently been working with Emma on clapping. Yesterday, she got it! Emma seems to be very proud of herself now and is enjoying clapping any time anyone claps first. Sometimes, she even starts on her own.
In this video, Emma is watching one of the clips below and claps for herself! PS: After many attempts to embed the video, I’ve been unsuccessful, so CLICK HERE to see the video.
Emma gets animated… November 24, 2008
My favorite part is about three-fourths of the way through when Emma pauses, looks to her left and then does the karate chop. Wait for it…
Emma’s on the move now… October 19, 2008
When Emma first started crawling a few weeks ago, she clasped her hands together, threw them in front of herself as far as possible and then pulled the rest of her body along. But it didn’t take her long to figure out how to really get on the move…
Emma tearing paper at the doctor’s office October 19, 2008
Last Saturday, we took Emma to the doctor because she’d been congested for a while, had a fever and overall just wasn’t feeling too well. Apparently, she felt well enough to destroy the paper liner on the exam table…
Papa’s only fan… March 7, 2008
When I was a senior in undergrad, playing baseball for Lyon College, I’d torn some ligaments in my shoulder that kept me from playing my senior season. I bought my first guitar and my three roommates proceeded to hate me for life. OK, OK…So they didn’t — and they don’t — hate me, but they loved to give me a hard time about my penchant for guitars.
I never learned to play a full song, though a taught myself bits and pieces of many. I was in the habit of stringing together riffs from a dozen greatest hits, and I’d play them over and over…and over…and over again. It became known as the “Josh Baugh Medley,” and it was hated across the land.
Fast-forward a few years, and Ashley came into the picture. At first, she only saw the guitars. I never attempted to play around her because I’m so awful at it. But then as we got more comfortable, she let it be known that she was a quilter, and I admitted to being addicted to the guitar.
The products of her labor are gorgeous. Mine hurt everyone’s ears.
Alas, I’ve found a fan. The other night, Emma was fussing and crying and fussing and crying, so on and so forth. We’d tried everything to calm her down, but nothing was working. So in a last-ditch effort to bring some peace to our daughter, I broke out the guitar and started strumming. She immediately quieted down and watched and listened intently. Soon after, her little arms and legs began to move with the beat.
After a while, Ashley came in and saw it, joking that I’d finally found a fan. We ended up shooting this video, though the front end was much better. Still, this is pretty damn cute…
